Frequently Asked Questions
What makes these soaps different from store-bought soap?
Our soaps are handcrafted in Canada using natural vegetable oils, shea butter, naturally occurring glycerin, and aroma blends of essential oils and naturally derived aromas. No synthetic fragrances, no artificial colors, no harsh chemicals.
What is natural bar soap?
True soap made by reacting plant oils with lye, then curing the bars until they are hard and mild. Unlike most drugstore beauty bars, which are synthetic detergents, a natural cold-process bar keeps all of the glycerin that forms as it is made.
How long are your soaps cured?
Every bar cures for 4 to 6 weeks after it is cut. During that time the soapmaking reaction finishes, excess water evaporates, and the bar becomes harder, milder and longer-lasting.
Is there lye in your bar soap?
Lye (sodium hydroxide) is what turns the oils into soap, which is why it appears on our labels. It is fully used up during saponification and curing, so no lye remains in the finished bar.
Do your bar soaps contain palm oil?
Yes. Our bars are made from coconut, palm and canola oils. The palm oil we use is sustainably sourced and RSPO-certified, and it helps make a hard bar that lasts.
Is bar soap better than body wash?
It depends on what you value. A natural bar is concentrated true soap with a short ingredient list and no plastic bottle. Most body washes are detergents with water as the first ingredient. Body wash can suit you better if you have very hard water or prefer not to share a bar.
How long does a bar last?
Each bar weighs 135 grams, almost 35% larger than most competitors. With proper storage (keeping it dry between uses), a bar typically lasts 4 to 6 weeks of daily use.
How should I store my soap?
Keep your soap on a well-draining soap dish between uses. Allowing it to dry between washes extends the life of the bar significantly.
Are these safe for sensitive skin?
Most of our soaps are made with 98 to 100% naturally derived ingredients and are gentle enough for sensitive skin. We offer bars specifically formulated for sensitive skin. Check each product's description for details.
What are soap seconds?
Soap seconds are bars that didn't quite meet our standards for a perfect bar. They may vary in shape or size but contain the exact same high-quality ingredients. They're a great value option.
Why do colors vary between bars?
We use only natural mineral-based colors and botanical extracts. Due to the artisanal nature of our small-batch production, slight color variations are completely normal.
